name attribute for iframe

Do you think the HTML spec should do something differently? You can discuss spec feedback here, but you should send it to the WHATWG mailing list or file a bug in the W3C bugzilla for it to be considered.

name attribute for iframe

The situation:
You have a link with a target attribute aiming at an iframe.

The problem:
In HTML 5, iframe has no name attribute and so can only use id to receive targeted link requests.

The following browsers do not support using id in this way on iframe and require the name attribute:
Mozilla Firefox in HTML mode,
Internet Explorer,
Safari and
Konqueror.

The query:
Will HTML 5 support the name attribute only on iframe?
Or is this feature to be permanently disabled?
Or will all existing and previous versions of Firefox, IE, Safari and Konqueror add full id support? (Impossible)

If HTML 5 is to be backwards compatible with existing browser implementations, preventing name attribute on iframe will limit iframe to a readonly state and break backwards compatibility.
