KBD for events

Do you think the HTML spec should do something differently? You can discuss spec feedback here, but you should send it to the WHATWG mailing list or file a bug in the W3C bugzilla for it to be considered.

KBD for events

If KBD KBD is really about how to enter, it is an extension of HTML4 where KBD only indicates what to enter.
If it is so, the example in 4.6 should rather be
Code: Select all
<KBD ><KBD >Shift <KBD >F3</KBD ></KBD ></KBD >

This reads:
1. Press Shift
2. Press F3
3. Release F3
4. Release Shift

The same observation is relevant to menu choices:
Code: Select all
<KBD ><KBD ><SAMP >File</SAMP >.<KBD ><SAMP >Open…</SAMP ></KBD ></KBD ></KBD >

The nested thing are mostly for convenience for styling (although if you try it, you'll probably find that it isn't really so convenient to style), and for semanticists.

You can really just use "Press Shift+F3", without any markup.
