Please don't forget WRAP on Textarea

Do you think the HTML spec should do something differently? You can discuss spec feedback here, but you should send it to the WHATWG mailing list or file a bug in the W3C bugzilla for it to be considered.

Please don't forget WRAP on Textarea

Please don't forget the WRAP attribute on Textarea.

What is the problem you are trying to solve?
Code written in an HTML form getting unexpected new lines.

What is the feature you are suggesting to help solve it?
Add WRAP attribute to Text area to the SPEC, it is already implemented widely.

What is the processing model for that feature, including error handling?

Although, from behavior I've seen, there are three behaviors. Soft and Hard acts as specified above. "Off" acts as Soft but with no line wrap at all. You get two scroll bars, one in each direction if needed.

Why do you think browsers would implement this feature?
Because they already have? To handle real line characters (Soft) vs visually added ones (Hard) vs What You See Is What You REALLY Get (Off).

Why do you think authors would use this feature?
Varying on how significant the whitespace and presentation are, you want an input area that matches it.

What evidence is there that this feature is desparately needed?
Web browsers already support this.

So, in a nutshell, for textareas that expect "code" as input, you don't want automatic wrapping? Why not? What sort of code are we discussing?

VB and VBA are very sensitive to new line characters. Or any other scripting language where commands are ended with line feeds. (I can think of a couple of shell scripting languages where it has an implicit command end.)

Can you cite some real Web pages that have a <textarea> that expects such a scripting language as input?
