Client-side database: how do i do to populate it?

Hi this is my first message here, i'm not so good to write in english sorry!!

I'm writing a sample application that uses client-side database to store a little table of products. My question is how can i read a remote database and store the result of the remote query in my local database.
I think i have to made a php function to query the remote database right? But after that???
