<aside> for sidebar?

Postby mgw » Tue Sep 22, 2009 3:22 pm

Hi everybody,

I m wondering if the use of the aside-element in the WHATWG-example page is correct. It is used for the sidebar on the right.
In my understanding this is not the way it should be used, because it is not directly related to any content.

The Specification and the article on HTML5-Doctorsays the same.

What do you think? Am I right?

It's "tangentially" related to the content, no?

As I said in a comment on the html5doctor article:
zcorpan wrote:<aside> was actually originally called <sidebar> in the spec, so at least it is intended to be used for sidebars in general.

The spec has since been changed to make it clearer that it's ok for sidebars, and even has an example using <aside> for a sidebar.
