Has there been any discussion regarding improvements or alternatives to the standard HTML/http upload-via-form process?
With all the discussion regarding HTML5 addressing the needs of web applications, file uploads seems to be a glaring omission (and my sincerest apologies if this discussion is taking place and I wasn't aware). One only needs to use Flickr, Vimeo or Wordpress and compare the experience of HTML uploads via uploading with Flash widgets (which I believe create a micro S/FTP client) to see the glaring inferiority in doing it the "html way."
Is an SFTP bridge possible? Is there some reason why this would be Considered Harmful? If so, what else can be done?
(see Steven Frank's rant re: FTP for my assumption that skipping over FTP for SFTP from the get-go might be desirable)
