Multiple use of HTML 5 tags?

Hi - I'm completely new to HTML 5 - so I'll be posting loads of dumb questions ...

Here goes:

If I use the nav / header / footer tags more than once in a page it validates ok (using http://qa-dev.w3.org/wmvs/HEAD/ )

(In the case of nav I'm thinking of using it for both top (site-wide) and left (section-specific) navigation.)

But - would using the tags more than once in a page defeat their intended purpose (which is presumably to improve the semantic structure of the page)?

Yes use the elements (nav/header/footer) as many times as you like so long as you put them within the correct context ...
