Video annotations in HTML5

Postby sglover » Wed Jun 09, 2010 9:23 pm

The business I am interning for has videos that I want to convert from Flash to HTML5 which contain annotations/ interactive components in them. I know I will lose the interactive components when I convert them over, but is there any way to re-insert them into the video?

Please Help! Thank you

You can overlay them over the video. For now you sync them with the video by using setInterval and polling currentTime (see "How to keep things synchronized" in http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/ever ... and-audio/ ).

A better API to sync stuff is in the works (along with support for captions; see http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/cu ... med-tracks ).

A big warning: H.264 is patent encumbered so if you want to avoid opting your company in to giant bills from the people in Hollywood suing grandmothers ensure you use a codec that is absolutely free to use.
