Do you think the HTML spec should do something differently? You can discuss spec feedback here, but you should send it to the WHATWG mailing list or file a bug in the W3C bugzilla for it to be considered.

I've sent this also to @WHATWG but seems to be unmonitored?
If I google for "HTML5 events" and click the top ranking link for whatwg.org it crashes my browser

No. Apparently the spec is a lot faster in Firefox 4 compared to Firefox 3.6.
