I thought the idea really was that the non-final portions of the "HTML5" family of standards (i.e. Web Applications 1.0 etc) shouldn't be used in the wild as of yet because they are still subject to change.
In other words: if you're currently redesigning, say, microsoft.com, don't do it with web workers just yet; otherwise the site might need a _new_ redesign very, very soon.
That has nothing to do with most uses of HTML5 right now, though. Enthusiasts can and should experiment with it and create wonderful things with it, they should just be aware of what parts are stable and which are not.
