Return of Marquee.... Possible?

Do you think the HTML spec should do something differently? You can discuss spec feedback here, but you should send it to the WHATWG mailing list or file a bug in the W3C bugzilla for it to be considered.

Return of Marquee.... Possible?

Postby dhayfule » Wed Jul 13, 2011 10:23 am

Although most of us have been avoiding deprecated tags in XHTML1, we still miss a tag that was highly used for Tickers and scrolling news, i.e. marquee

Agreed that Marquee was non standard tag, but it still avoided the pain of writing long Scripts just for scrolling a text.

I think, HTML5 should introduce something similar to marquee (or rather rename the tag as Ticker) so that dependency on JavaScript can be reduced.

You don't need javascript, you can do it with CSS these days.

There's http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-marquee/ but I don't think anyone implements that. However CSS transitions are widely supported and can maybe be used to fake the effect of a marquee.

Thanks for sharing this.
Where can I find the official documentation of CSS Transitions, Google leads me to lots of pages.
