Capture tag

Do you think the HTML spec should do something differently? You can discuss spec feedback here, but you should send it to the WHATWG mailing list or file a bug in the W3C bugzilla for it to be considered.

Capture tag

What would peoples oppinions be on maybe having a <capture> tag. It seems that the HTML5 spec is going all out on the forms but ignoring the huge problem of spam created by the forms.

<capture />

The correct term is element, a tag refers specifically to the start or end tag of an element. Since you are referencing an element as a whole (as is in the vast majority of cases) the correct term is element. The only time one can correctly reference a tag is essentially when inquiring if in example a link element should have an ending tag in XHTML.

Since Captcha uses an image and the img element has been around for a very long time I don't see the need for any new element to be added. That is not to suggest that the specification can't make an active effort to counter the weakness of forms against spam however since the issue arises out of abuse of the implementation of HTML by web designers it is not inherently an issue for any (X)HTML specification directly which is implemented by browser vendors. The goal of preventing spam should remain transparent to users therefore captcha does not provide the necessary solution in regards to the context of it's implementation.
